"I'm ready / Ready for what's next," Bono announces at the outset of Achtung Baby, the album that proved the so-called "band of the '80s" was capable of blazing into the '90s by replacing its flag-waving arena-rock stance with screaming synths, clubby rhythms, and industrial skronk. The group advances its sound without losing accessibility on "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses," "Even Better Than the Real Thing," and "Mysterious Ways," while pushing the envelope a bit more on "The Fly," "Zoo Station," and "Acrobat." The moody ballad "One" is arguably the finest song the band has produced, full of sorrow, compassion, and hope all at the same time. --Daniel Durchholz

Achtung, Baby is U2's christening voyage into the postmodern, a brave venture into unknown territory and a brilliant musical transformation for the band. The album is packed with just as much passion as previous albums, but the lyrics are much more emotionally poetic and far less political. Musically, the tracks are a metropolis of intoxicating dance beats and lush guitar riffs. "The Fly" opens with guitarist The Edge's trademark reverberations cutting through the opening verse like a speedboat slicing through choppy water; on "Mysterious Ways," Bono's one-man gospel choir belts out the praises of an adored woman. --Beth Bessmer

This is the best of all U2 Albums. Every song hits the highs and the lows in tune and life. Some people say it's techno and not as good as U2s old stuff. Well this is an Evolved album. Evolved means being open to all things that life has to offer. U2 in this is genius. Heard a lot from critics who are want to bee's who can't even play an instrument? My opinion to them, don't comment. If your a heavy metal fan and play this at a party no ones going to complain. I did it(wives). Ohh Yeah! Women dig this album. If you have a question about buying Achtung Baby, don't question find out for yourself. One other thing The guy who commented on Alice In Chains...rules. That's an open mind(see them live).Everyone reading this don't close your mind listen to everything. U2 listens and brings it, So should you.

Usuallee Said: the best album...ever?? ( Aug. 3rd 2010 )

U2 hit their absolute peak with Achtung Baby, and I really can't come up with a better overall album from start to finish. It had several monster radio hits like mysterious ways, even better than the real thing, one, until the end of the world, etc., but every track is a spellbinder. It somehow manages to be U2'd most catchy, commercial, danceable, darkly mysterious, and emotionally harrowing album ever, all at the same time. It is U2's most stylish album, yet also the most substantive. It is utterly timeless, but also to this day sounds futuristic and ahead of its time. Bono sings like a man possessed, and he effortlessly fills his lyrics with haunting, unforgettable imagery. The songwriting, musicianship, production, and overall soundscape are utterly inspired. It's influential, but nobody's managed to come close to copying it. I've listened to it so many times that is has the familiarity of an old friend, yet I always seem to hear some new enchanting texture.

I could go on and on. In short, Achtung Baby is everything you could ever want in an album.

For this music junkie, I can say that this is probably the lone album that has never EVER fallen out of the rotation after nearly 20 years. As a teen, it was one of the first cds I ever owned, and is the one cd I've always made sure I had in my car, would always play it when kids came over, road trips in college, and then when I got an ipod, always made sure it was on there at all times. Just in case I wanted to listen to it. And I always keep coming back for more.

The greatest thing about U2 for me is that none of their music sounds dated. Somehow they keep managing to transcend the times and time itself.

kev Said: The Band of the World's Best Album ( Jun. 9th 2010 )

Achtung Baby is one of U2's most consistently good albums. It stands the test of time as truly incredible music from one of the most talented bands ever. From the worldwide theme song "One" to other classics like "The Fly" and "Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses", Achtung Baby is quintessential U2. If The Joshua Tree was U2's Act I, Achtung Baby is Act II. The band brings a new edge to their music, experimenting with different sounds and distortions, and it works. I usually skip the first track, Zoo Station, but every other song is gold.

The last 3 songs on the album are a beautiful finale for one of the best albums I've ever heard. I highly recommend this to any fan of music.

Arunabh Singh Said: Achtung U2 > Attention ( Apr. 7th 2010 )

This album is one of the top notch albums by U2 ever. Awesome singing by Bono, guitar work and terrific music. A must buy for anyone who loves music and U2 in particular. One thing which i would want to confirm with other colleagues who own this album is did you notice the gaps in the middle of some of the songs like Whos GOnna Ride Your Wild Horses, So Cruel, One, Even Better Than The Real Thing and The Fly. I have two copies of Achtung Baby and both of them have this issue. I would like to confirm whether this is a recording issue or is it a feature of the songs. Thank you.
